8 Easy Steps to Building a Big List of Customers
Saturday, 07 February 2009
By Dennis Hall

These eight steps will help you build your list of customers larger and if you are just starting, it will help you establish a base of customers. These tips are used by most successful new businesses to explore and develop their market. OK, let's get started.

First , you need to start an opt-in or "squeeze" page on your website.

The opt-in page is a tool that will direct the visitors at your site to your blog, where they will find a link to your newsletter. The object here is to get the visitor to give his e-mail address so that you can send him a newsletter and build up your list.

Start a newsletter that details your product and informs your subscriber of all available information related to the product.

The newsletter is used to inform your customer of any and all information you have about your product. It also gives reports, interviews, even opinions from the customers about the product. If there are special promotions available, you'll find them here. Any kind of information that will aid your subscriber is found here.

You should use your picture and any personal information you think will help to identify with your subscriber.

It helps to let your customer know who you are and how you can help them solve their problem. They are more inclined to trust someone who identifies themselves. You are trying to build a reputation as well as a big list.

It helps to use an auto responder to deliver any new or pertinent information to your subscribers.

Auto responders facilitate the automatic delivery of information, new offers, special promotions, etc., to the subscriber of the newsletter. It has proven to be an effective tool to keep your list of subscribers up to date on the product and any changes that apply to them. Auto responders can be found for free at Google-Auto responders.

The use of a blog gives a place for your customers to go to get information and to give information,i.e., opinions, feedback, etc., to the site.

The blog is used as a clearinghouse of information that goes both ways. It should be used to prepare the potential customer for a display of information and a source for your product. Your opt-in page should never go directly to your sales page. It should go to your blog. When you offer information, you should have a plan laid out that will encourage the visitor to your site to ask for information, then you may ask him for his e-mail address. This will help to build your list of subscribers and, hopefully, customers.

Always offer quality products and information.

There is a lot of competition out there. You want your product and your reputation to stand out in the crowd. The name of the game is to develop trust and reliability with your list of subscribers.

You should always use a subscriber box on every page of your website.

Building a list of subscribers to your newsletter usually means a list of potential customers too. After all, you are in business to sell things. By using a subscriber box on every page, you increase your odds of getting another e-mail address if the visitor missed it on the first page.

Always include a thank you page on your website.

Always let your customers and subscribers know that you are grateful and thankful for their interest and their business. Be helpful and respectful and always give solid help and assistance when requested. Your customers will appreciate that and, hopefully, they will be repeat customers.

These are only a few of the things the successful list builder will do. As with all businesses, you will learn other tips and techniques. They will become obvious as you grow and see the need for other skills. Always be respectful of your customers and they will respect you.

Maintaining regular communication with a mix of free advice and offering quality information/products/services for sale should be your business model.
